The high mountain reservoirs in Kaprun

Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden reservoirs & the Adventure World

At an altitude of more than 2,000 metres you will find a unique view: the Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden reservoirs and the 107-metre-high and 500-metre-long Mooser Dam. At the Electricity Adventure World you can experience the interplay between glacier, power plant construction during the 1950s and green electricity generation firsthand. This is a fun highlight to discover on your holiday in Kaprun!

Getting to the Kaprun reservoirs

Drive to the Kesselfall-Alpenhaus and take the bus through the Lärchwand Tunnel. The Lärchwand inclined lift (Europe's largest inclined lift) is once again in operation following its remoulding and will take you to Kaprun's mountains. Take the shuttle bus on the last stage to the Mooserboden reservoir. The entire journey to the reservoirs takes about 45 minutes. We will be happy to give you more detailed information about exact travel times at the hotel reception.

Hikes and tours of the Mooser Dam

A tour of the dam is not to be missed. On a guided tour you can take a peek at the inner workings of the 107-metre-high Mooser Dam. Kaprun's alpine reservoirs are also the perfect place to start a hike in the Alps. An easy hiking trail runs from the Mooserboden reservoir to the Fürthermoaralm chalet. When you take this trail you will also pass a herb-themed educational trail. Other hiking destinations include the Griesskogel mountain or the Rudolfshütte mountain hotel. The cooks at the rustic chalets and mountain restaurants will be happy to whip up something good for you to eat along the way.

Electricity Adventure World

The Electricity Adventure World is located at the Mooserboden reservoir. Various exhibitions take you back to the post-World War II era of the 1950s. Learn what uses the reservoirs have had for both the village of Kaprun and the state of Salzburg, get a peek at the construction of the power plant and at how electricity is created using water power, and immerse yourself in the myth of Kaprun.

This is an experience that excellently combines sport, nature and science: take an excursion to the Kaprun reservoirs during your stay at the Kaprunerhof!
