The Flora and Fauna in the National Park
In the Hohe Tauern, extreme living conditions prevail. Yet nature has found a way to master these conditions. Therefore, survival artists such as chamois, marmots and golden eagles have made the national park their home. Also, rare plants such as edelweiss, wolf lichen, or Swiss stone pine have settled amidst the mountain massifs. To protect these, the Hohe Tauern National Park is a nature reserve. As an additional protection, automobile traffic is prohibited in some valleys.
