The historic centre of Salzburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is very special in every respect: The famous skyline with the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress blends with the great panoramic backdrop of the surrounding mountains and the river Salzach. In the historic centre of Salzburg you will find a lot of famous sites of interest which have made the city famous throughout the world, most especially the baroque Salzburg Cathedral, which plays host to the famous “Jedermann” spectacle during the festival season. Next to the cathedral you will find the famous Hohensalzburg Fortress from the eleventh century. You can reach the fortress by foot or with a small mountain railway. On the top you can go on a tour through the medieval fortress or just enjoy the impressions of the beautiful city of Mozart below. Other places worth seeing in Salzburg include the Residenz Gallery, Mozart’s birthplace and the Mirabell Palace with its beautiful gardens.

A short walk is the best way to explore the city of Salzburg. Enjoy the romantic flair in the small medieval alleys while you peruse the shop windows along the street. It’s also worthwhile visiting the historic buildings such as the monastery of St. Peter with its mystic catacombs and the holy trinity church. You can enjoy a delicious Austrian cake or strudel while relaxing at one of the countless comfortable coffee houses in the historic centre. In the Getreidegasse, which is famous for its wrought-iron handcraft signs, can you find plenty of small shops among the big fashion labels which sell everything you can imagine – shoes, leather goods, antiques and traditional costumes, as well as small gifts and souvenirs from Salzburg.
