Salzburg Zoo

Salzburg Zoo Salzburg Zoo Next to the Hellbrunn palace is Salzburg Zoo. It contains more than 800 animals with 140 species from all over the world. Children and adults alike simply marvel at the cats of prey and reptiles. Salzburg Zoo tries to use the local conditions of the Hellbrunn Mountain for creating natural living conditions for its wild animals. If possible, they try to avoid fences and gates. In the new zoo area different species of animals live together over an area of some 14 hectares. Famous highlights at the zoo include the free-roaming Eurasian griffons. They live on the mountain and only return to the zoo for feeding. Further highlights include the tropical centre and outdoor unit for the lions. From July to September the zoo has extended opening hours on Friday and Saturday (final admittance at 9:30 pm), which means you can stay and watch as the animals are fed at dusk.
